Furniture Draftsman

Responsibilities:

– Convert initial design sketches and concepts into accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, including elevations, plans, and detailed cross-sections.

– Create comprehensive shop drawings for custom joinery, loose furniture, and cabinetry to be used directly by the production or manufacturing floor.

– Prepare detailed material lists, hardware schedules, and upholstery or textile specifications required for production.

– Work closely with interior designers, project managers, and craftsmen to ensure design intent is perfectly executed and to troubleshoot potential manufacturing issues.

– Attend site visits to take accurate field measurements and verify that finished furnishings align with the initial blueprints.

– Adjust and update drafts based on client feedback, manufacturing constraints, or engineering reviews.

– Ensure all furniture designs and interior layouts comply with safety regulations, building codes, and company quality standards.

Qualifications:

– Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Furniture Design, Architecture, or a related technical field.

– Minimum of 2–4 years of experience as a draughtsman, specifically within furniture manufacturing, interior fit-outs, or architectural millwork.

– Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D modeling programs like SketchUp, Revit, or SolidWorks.
